READING IS OUR SUPERPOWER!
ABOUT OUR READ-A-THON: Read-A-Thon is the PTA’s biggest fundraiser of the year. It promotes reading throughout the school with engaging theme-based activities, occasional reading prompts, classroom competitions, and individual and group prizes! Not only does the Read-A-Thon provide critical funding needed to support the PTA’s annual budget but it also helps to enrich all students’ educational experience at Briarlake Elementary School.
THIS YEAR’S THEME: READING IS OUR SUPERPOWER is our 2024 Read-A-Thon theme! It begins on October 7th and ends on November 1st. We hope students tap into the power of reading throughout this epic four-week journey and learn that even superheroes have friends, as we encourage them to join forces in classroom competitions and participate in our Superhero Roundup. During the READING IS OUR SUPERPOWER campaign, students will explore ALL their unique superpowers and discovery that everyone has a superhero living inside of them!
READ-A-THON GOALS: We have our sights set on a lofty fundraising goal of $25,000! We believe in all our Super Readers and have set an individual goal of $75 per student. Though we hope our campaign is a smashing success, the ultimate mission for this year’s supercharged Read-A-Thon is to create a buzz that energizes students’ literacy and inspires their invincible, infinite love of books!
HOW TO PARTICIPATE: Each student will receive an individual 99Pledges fundraising page via email. Please share this information widely by promoting it on your social media pages and emailing it to family, friends, neighbors, and co-workers! Students will also receive: a Super Reader Log to help track reading progress, a money envelope for cash/check sponsors, and weekly superhero-themed activities in their Friday Folders. (Money envelopes should be placed in the office lockbox weekly and include the student’s name and homeroom information. These donations will be manually added to each student’s 99Pledges profile.)
INDIVIDUAL PARTICIPATION PRIZES: Each student who raises:
- $75 earns a SUPERHERO bookmark + 1 raffle ticket.
- $250 earns a SUPERHERO cape and mask + 2 raffle tickets.
- $500 earns a SUPERHERO swag bag + 5 raffle tickets.
- $750 earns a SUPERHERO personalized book + 7 raffle tickets.
- $1000 earns a 16G Kindle Paperwhite Kids + 10 raffle tickets.
CLASSROOM PRIZES: Each week, the class with the highest reading participation will win a treasure box filled with spectacular superhero-inspired goodies for the classroom! Students will simply track their reading progress at home with the handy Super Reader Log. For every 20 minutes of reading they chronicle, students will be allowed to add one window sticker to their classroom's skyscraper on the Superhero City bulletin. By the end of the READING IS OUR SUPERPOWER fundraiser, the cityscape will be complete! (Each homeroom teacher will determine the best way for their students to report progress and build their skyscrapers.)
GROUP PARTICIPATION PRIZES: Classrooms with the highest participation percentage on 99Pledges will win a Super-Duper Ice Cream Party! There will be four total winners, one classroom from each division (Division 1: S/PID, Division 2: PK-K, Division 3: 1st-3rd, Division 4: 4th-5th).
THE GRAND PRIZE: This year’s grand prize is a Superhero Birthday Party from Southern Belle Character Parties — or choose your own theme! Want a chance to win? Raise at least $75 to earn a single raffle ticket for the grand prize drawing. The more money you raise, the more tickets you get!
PRIZE DISTRIBUTION: Classroom treasure boxes will be awarded weekly. All raffle tickets and individual prizes will be distributed on Monday, November 4. Group party winners and the grand prize winner will be announced at the school Talent Show on November 6th!
