pta planning for next year

With everything going on, it's difficult to think about normal ever returning. But, eventually, normal will return, our kiddos will go to school in August, and they'll have quite a few stories to share. We have a lot of parents who have done so much for Briarlake, spent so many hours making the school all it can be, and we're thankful for each and for all they've done this year. Many of our most active members of the PTA have children who will be moving on to middle school next year. Please consider taking up their tasks, many of which can be done from home with just a computer and a little bit of time. Contact Sara Lee, Sara.elizabeth.lee@gmail.com or Jenny Buigut, Jennifer.briarlakepta@gmail.com if you're willing to help make Briarlake the best school it can be!

staff appreciation

While we are all at home, our amazing Briarlake staff continues to support our children's learning. Virtual lessons from our teachers help our students with their lessons and gives us time to conduct our own virtual meetings. Administrative tasks continue and our Briarlake front office continues to keep all of the essential work going on behind the scenes. Let's remember to thank all of them whenever we can, and especially on the appreciation days that are listed below.

Principal's Day - Jamela Lewis - May 1

Teachers' Appreciation Week - May 4 - 8

School Nurses' Day - Kerana Lee - May 6

The PTA is working to come up with some fun virtual way to appreciate them all. We are looking for ideas, so please send emails to lizbradleyuga@gmail.com with your ideas. Please put Staff Appreciation in the subject line.

A simple note or picture from students to the teacher or admin staff via e-mail, Seesaw, or any other online method of communication would really make their day. Include pics, maybe put the kiddos to work making a poster. Please send the notes via email to your room parents and they will forward to the staff.

field day t-shirt replacement

Sadly Field Day will not take place this year due to school closing early with the coronavirus.  Good news is that we are able to offer this new design to represent Briarlake remaining strong during these difficult times and to help support Custom Sportswear who has been the field day t-shirt vendor for many years.  New orders can be placed online.

If you have already placed an online order or turned in a paper order form then your order will be filled with this new beautiful t-shirt design. Stay safe and be strong while showing your BES Beaver pride!

If you prefer a refund and ordered online then please email Ron@customsportswear.net

If you submitted a paper form, then please email lbcoil@att.net to receive a refund.

All orders and refunds must be made or requested by 4/30/20. T-shirts will be distributed in May, date to be determined.

Thank you for your patience and support. Be safe and stay strong!

Hoping to schedule a virtual playdate? If you're a member of the PTA, you can access the school directory at our website, briarlakepta.org. Click on the CONTACT tab, scroll down to BES DIRECTORY, and find your children's friends!

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are closing all local school playgrounds until further notice.  Public access will not be allowed during this time.  Beginning March 25th, Facilities and Operations will be putting out signage and cordoning off the playground equipment with caution tape at all of our schools that have playground equipment.

This decision is aligned to the decision made by our municipal partners (Dekalb County Government and other city governments).  The Dekalb County Government and the governing body of local city municipalities within DeKalb have closed their playgrounds and parks in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Parents, we know many of you had paid for items like the field day t-shirt or the Briarlake Bash. Please be patient while we plan a way to manage reimbursements. The county is also working on a way to manage money paid to them, including field trip funds. We'll share refund information just as soon as we get it. Thank you!

As the country confronts COVID-19, our goal is to help keep our members safe and healthy, while meeting the educational, as well as and the social and emotional needs of all students, educators and families.

To help ease the emerging challenges this pandemic presents, we’ve compiled resources, tools and information here that will support our families and teachers who are navigating working, teaching and learning at home. We’ll also share stories of how PTAs across the country are helping their communities.
