WEEK 35: April 6 - April 10
4/6/2020 6:00 am
WEEKLY UPDATES & RESOURCES
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are closing all local school playgrounds until further notice. Public access will not be allowed during this time. Beginning March 25th, Facilities and Operations will be putting out signage and cordoning off the playground equipment with caution tape at all of our schools that have playground equipment.
This decision is aligned to the decision made by our municipal partners (Dekalb County Government and other city governments). The Dekalb County Government and the governing body of local city municipalities within DeKalb have closed their playgrounds and parks in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
academic challenge #3
Beavers rock!! We had 56 students, from K all the way to fifth grade, participate for this third Academic Challenge around Art and Reading! Way to go!
Academic challenges are an opportunity for kids to develop Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics (STEAM) skillsets! It is not about getting the answer right but develop skillsets around brainstorming, working in groups and troubleshooting. Fill their thinking toolbox at a young age and be amazed at what they will accomplish in the future! Each academic challenges are therefore designed around STEAM activities and are perfect for young kids to 5th grade to get started with the idea of STEAM.
The list of all participants can be found here.
Special shout-out for Aaron Schubert and his stop motion movie. Enjoy!
Last Call For Yearbooks!
Have a graduating 5th grader or just want to make sure you remember this crazy year? The yearbook staff has been working hard to compile some great Briarlake memories :-)
You can add your own 2 custom pages for FREE! Please place and customize all orders by April 10th. Sadly since we will not be coming back to school this semester we will be considering doing a drive by pickup of the books. Upon district approval, we will share further logistics in mid May! We are excited about the possibilities. What better way to see your friends and remember the year we've had than by browsing through your yearbook!
Please see flyer for price and purchase details.
Parents, we know many of you had paid for items like the field day t-shirt or the Briarlake Bash. Please be patient while we plan a way to manage reimbursements. The county is also working on a way to manage money paid to them, including field trip funds. We'll share refund information just as soon as we get it. Thank you!
NATIONAL PTA COVID-19 WEBPAGE
As the country confronts COVID-19, our goal is to help keep our members safe and healthy, while meeting the educational, as well as and the social and emotional needs of all students, educators and families.
To help ease the emerging challenges this pandemic presents, we’ve compiled resources, tools and information here that will support our families and teachers who are navigating working, teaching and learning at home. We’ll also share stories of how PTAs across the country are helping their communities.
