WEEK 34: March 30 - April 3

3/30/2020 6:00 am

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are closing all local school playgrounds until further notice.  Public access will not be allowed during this time.  Beginning March 25th, Facilities and Operations will be putting out signage and cordoning off the playground equipment with caution tape at all of our schools that have playground equipment.

This decision is aligned to the decision made by our municipal partners (Dekalb County Government and other city governments).  The Dekalb County Government and the governing body of local city municipalities within DeKalb have closed their playgrounds and parks in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

A huge congratulations to Logan Bernard for winning 1st place for 5th grade Photography in the GA Reflections.  That is 1st place at the State level!  She will be moving on to the Nation level soon.  Great job!

Below are several pertinent SEL/WFH resources for our parents, teachers, and students.  Share these with whomever may need these valuable resources!

Dekalb Schools Cars... Taking Care of YOU!

@9am EST:  Watch our Story Time each day on our Facebook page.

During this fun, interactive video session, a Booster Team Member will read a beloved children’s book aloud. You don't want to miss it!

@Noon EST:  Join the BoostFit Fitness Break on our Facebook page each day.

During this fun, high-energy video session, a Booster Team Member will lead your students through a series of fitness challenges. We encourage you to do them alongside your kids!

@3pm EST:  Our National Family Fun Run program is streaming LIVE at 3pm each day today through March 31st on our Facebook page.

We’ve included family dance breaks, character lessons, and some fun challenges. No fundraising at all.  Just something fun and active for students and their families to do together at home.

And on April 1st:  We’ll host a National Family Fun Run Day, where families can get active at home however they choose.

As the country confronts COVID-19, our goal is to help keep our members safe and healthy, while meeting the educational, as well as and the social and emotional needs of all students, educators and families.

To help ease the emerging challenges this pandemic presents, we’ve compiled resources, tools and information here that will support our families and teachers who are navigating working, teaching and learning at home. We’ll also share stories of how PTAs across the country are helping their communities.

Thank you so much for students who have already posted their Week 1 and/or Week 2 Virtual assignments.  Thank you also for your patience as I collaborate with classroom and specials teachers to use the best platform for your children to access and post assignments. If you and your child create something at home that involves STEM and/or solve a real world problem for home or your community, please use that project as a Virtual Learning Activity in place of any of the activities I will post.

Starting Monday, I will post assignments for:

  • Kindergarten, First, and Fifth Grade: Seesaw (Students post assignments only in Seesaw)
  • Second, Third, and Fourth Grades: Google Classroom (Students post assignments only in Google Classroom)

I will also post assignments in Verge and links to access Seesaw and Google Classroom. If you have any questions and concerns, please email me at STEM: veena_black@ dekalbschoolsga.org. I will respond to your emails within 24 hours. Thank you so much for your support. I hope you are all enjoying time with your families, staying safe, and healthy.
